After seven days of grafting cucumbers, it's essential to remove the roots promptly. This allows the large root system of the pumpkin to take over the supply of nutrients and water. The roots can be gently pinched and flattened by hand first, then carefully cut with scissors over a period of 1–2 days. Avoid cutting them all at once, as this could abruptly disrupt the plant’s water and nutrient intake, leading to wilting. To prevent bacterial infections from entering through the wound, apply fine dry soil or a copper-based solution to the cut area immediately. Additionally, it's important for farmers to remember that when planting grafted cucumbers, the grafting site should be kept 2–3 cm above the ground level. This prevents the development of new roots at the graft union, which could weaken the plant’s structure and reduce its overall productivity. After cutting the roots, avoid letting the grafted part touch the soil directly, as this may encourage unwanted root growth from the graft site. Proper care during this phase ensures stronger, healthier plants and better long-term yields.
