In order to ensure stable egg production and high yield from the hens, it's essential to properly match the breeding pairs and provide well-balanced feed that includes all necessary nutrients. Supplementing with trace elements and vitamins is crucial to fully realize the pigeons' productive potential. Here are the key points to consider: 1. Preventing issues like no-egg laying, soft-shelled eggs, or deformed eggs during the first laying period is important. While some initial non-laying may be normal, the fertility rate should ideally reach 80% or higher. If it falls below this level, check if the pairings are correct, whether there's an all-female situation, and ensure adequate supply of health sand. Improve the mineral content in the sand, including potassium, sodium, calcium, phosphorus, copper, and iron. 2. A variety of factors can lead to broken eggs, such as poorly designed nests, lack of nesting material, flat bottoms, or mismatched pair feelings. New pigeons often fight, and human disturbance or careless handling can also scare them. Overweight pigeons or improperly placed nests can contribute to broken eggs. If certain nutrients are missing in their diet, pigeons might break or eat their eggs. Adjust these conditions to reduce or eliminate broken eggs. 3. During the brooding period, feeding frequency should increase as the pigeons age. Feed should contain around 18% crude protein, along with essential amino acids, trace elements, and vitamins to support maximum productivity and help unlock their full potential. 4. Keep egg trays clean and ensure proper insulation during winter to protect newly hatched pigeons from cold drafts. When pigeons are 10–13 days old, replace the nest plate with a slightly larger one or move them outside the cage for artificial feeding to encourage natural nesting behavior. 5. Proper management during the moulting period is critical. Pigeons typically moult in summer and autumn, which lasts about a month. During this time, egg production may slow down. Reduce protein levels and feed quantity while increasing vitamins, minerals, and amino acids to boost immunity and speed up moulting. After moulting, gradually restore feeding standards. Add small amounts of vitamin supplements like Warner Multidimensional and Quick-Up-14 to their drinking water every few days to support egg production and prevent deficiencies. 6. Maintain cleanliness by regularly cleaning cages, feeders, and water troughs. Ensure egg trays are free from droppings and kept dry. Disinfect cages and pigeons every 10 days using a suitable disinfectant like 100 toxins to maintain a healthy environment. By focusing on these aspects, breeders can significantly improve the health, productivity, and overall performance of their pigeons.
