3 Sweet Treats

I'm officially in my third trimester now, and let me tell you, my cravings for sweets are at an all-time high! I feel like I might never get sugar again after this pregnancy, especially since my glucose test was just last week. But I’m trying to stay optimistic and hope that I'll still be able to enjoy some sweetness throughout the rest of this journey!

However, moving has made things a bit challenging when it comes to maintaining a balanced diet. Eating out frequently has led to some less-than-ideal choices (though that Big Mac I splurged on? Totally worth it). Plus, my parents have been incredibly supportive, and my dad is my dessert partner-in-crime. Together, we’ve made some questionable yet fantastic decisions—like that White Chocolate Raspberry Bread Pudding we had our first night here. Honestly, it was divine!

Unfortunately, I've reached the stage where I need to start cutting back on sugar. So I've been experimenting with recipes that still satisfy my sweet tooth but aren’t overly sugary. I also wanted to ensure there's a touch of healthiness in each one, so I wouldn't feel too guilty about indulging. Here are three of my favorite somewhat healthy treats that work perfectly whether you're pregnant or not!

Strawberry Cheesecake Bites

Ingredients

  • 8 oz Cream Cheese, softened
  • 2/3 cup Sugar
  • 2 Tbsp Powdered Sugar
  • 1/3 cup Sour Cream
  • 1 tsp Lemon Juice
  • 1 tsp Vanilla
  • 1 1/4 cups Heavy Cream
  • Strawberries
  • Graham Cracker Crumbs

Directions

In a medium bowl, mix the cream cheese, sugars, sour cream, lemon juice, and vanilla until smooth. Set aside. In another bowl, whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form. Gently fold the whipped cream into the cream cheese mixture until well combined. Cut the tops off the strawberries and slice them lengthwise. Trim the base of the strawberries so they can stand upright. Pipe the filling onto the strawberry halves and sprinkle with graham cracker crumbs.

  • Banana
  • Peanut Butter
  • Chocolate Chips

Directions

Cut the banana into slices. Spread peanut butter generously on one side of each slice and top with chocolate chips.

Berries with Sweet Cream

Ingredients

  • Berries
  • 1 cup Whipping Cream
  • 1 tsp Vanilla
  • 1 Tbsp Powdered Sugar
  • Angelfood Cake (optional)

Directions

Whip the cream until stiff peaks form. Fold in vanilla and powdered sugar. Serve over berries and/or angelfood cake. Alternatively, you can use Cool Whip instead.

I think each of these options is perfect depending on your mood. The Strawberry Cheesecake Bites recipe makes a lot of filling, so you might want to halve it unless you're planning a party. If you end up with extra filling, don't worry—it’s fantastic on graham crackers or even as a topping for French toast with blueberries!

And if you're looking for more ideas, I recently stumbled upon a recipe for avocado chocolate mousse. It sounds strange, but it’s surprisingly delicious and packed with healthy fats. Give it a try if you're interested in sneaking some extra nutrients into your diet without sacrificing flavor!
