Since 1998, Shandong Liangyi Farm has been utilizing the 2BQM-6A corn no-tillage precision seeder to adopt and promote new techniques in no-tillage farming. Over the years, the farm has accumulated valuable experience, which is now summarized below.
First, to ensure straight seed broadcasting and consistent spacing, which makes field management easier later on, the farm has developed a special marking system. Permanent marker poles are placed in the field to guide the planting process accurately.
Second, the presence of foreign objects on the seed trays can cause the cylinder seedlings to be cut off, leading to issues with suction, cultivation, or unexpected machine stoppages. Therefore, operators must constantly monitor the seedlings during operation, identify problems quickly, and resolve them promptly. Any missed seeding should be replanted immediately to maintain uniformity.
Third, one common issue is that the head cylinder fails to take up seeds due to low engine throttle and slow rotation speed at start-up, resulting in insufficient negative pressure. To avoid this, the operator should increase the throttle when starting the machine.
Fourth, the problem of sparse seedlings and low yield occurs annually, often due to excessive plant spacing. This can be addressed by increasing the number of seed holes or adjusting the sprocket ratio. Another reason could be a low germination rate or insufficient seed quantity. The germination rate should exceed 90%, and before sowing, seeds should be cleaned, soaked, and properly prepared. Sowing density is generally around 38 kg per hectare, with about 90,000 plants per hectare, and approximately 67,750 to 7,500 seedlings per hectare for optimal results.
Fifth, to ensure all seedlings are planted effectively, the farm has established an efficient process: first, a combine harvester cuts wheat straw and returns it to the field; then, no-tillage sowing is performed, followed by using a straw return machine to crush the stubble. Afterward, herbicides are sprayed, and irrigation is carried out. It's important to note that chopped wheat stalks help cover the soil, suppress weed growth, keep the soil loose, and improve drought resistance.
Lastly, several common faults have been identified with this model. One row of seed disks may fail to pick up seeds due to low rotation speed or blockage from debris. The intermediate shaft might break if the belt is too tight. The blade may not be buried or may break due to wear or looseness. Additionally, disc openers may not rotate because of poor bearing conditions, requiring regular checks, lubrication, or adjustment.
Through continuous improvement and hands-on experience, Shandong Liangyi Farm has made significant progress in optimizing no-tillage farming practices, ensuring better efficiency and productivity.
