This week has been full of unexpected twists and turns, but also some valuable lessons. First off, I discovered just how much I love food. Last Tuesday evening, I was lying on the couch feeling terrible, barely able to keep my eyes open without feeling like I might throw up. I was more upset about missing out on the delicious chicken tacos with goat cheese queso that my husband had prepared than I was about actually being sick. It was such a reminder of how much food plays a role in my happiness.
Second, I learned that sometimes opportunities come knocking when you least expect them. A few days ago, I was at a special Mother's Day event with a good friend, chatting with the show's producers after they expressed interest in having me return the next day to appear on their segment. I blinked a couple of times and somehow managed to squeak out a "yes." It was surreal to be asked, and even more surreal to actually say yes! The episode aired yesterday, and it was such a thrilling experience.
The third lesson came the night before the taping, when I caught a bug that had been circulating through our family. I woke up in cold sweats, shaking, and spent most of the night throwing up. By the time I got ready to record the segment the next morning, I felt absolutely awful. I applied my makeup, skipping mascara and lipstick for the "just in case" scenario, and wondered how I'd make it through four minutes looking remotely presentable. But I rallied, grabbed some Pedialyte (which, let me tell you, isn't exactly appetizing), and made it through the recording session. Walking into the studio, I felt relatively okay, and I’m so grateful for the support of my family, especially my husband who drove me and carried everything so I could rest during the ride.
If you missed the live segment, you can check it out here. We even made a fun behind-the-scenes video that shows the lighter side of our experience.

After the show, I’ve been experimenting with some DIY projects, including customizing tote bags. Supplies are simple—blank canvas totes, acrylic paint, brushes, and stencils—and the process is straightforward. My top tip? Always paint away from the tape to avoid seeping paint that could lift the tape while drying. Beyond that, let your imagination run wild!
We held an event at West Elm recently where everyone had a blast customizing their own totes. It was such a creative experience, and I loved seeing the unique designs people came up with.
If you're new here, thanks for stopping by! I hope you enjoy the stories and projects shared here.
