High-dose vitamin supplementation helps delay the progression of age-related macular degeneration. A small study recently conducted at the 14th annual meeting of the American Academy of Ophthalmology showed a large supplement of beta carotene, vitamin C, and vitamin E. Zinc, copper, lutein and zeaxanthin are effective methods for improving macular degeneration in patients with age-related macular degeneration (DAMD). A total of 20 patients were enrolled in the study and randomized into control and treatment groups at a 1:1 ratio. The treatment group's cocktail treatment regimen contained 10,000 IU of vitamin A, 125 mg of vitamin C, 100 IU of vitamin E, 55 mg of zinc, 2 mg of copper, 10 mg of lutein and 440 mg of zeaxanthin. The patient's visual acuity was followed at baseline and 3 months after treatment, and multifocal electroretinograms were used to assess changes in the macula. The results showed that after 3 months of multivitamin supplementation, the electroencephalogram test showed significant changes from baseline, and the visual acuity improved by 3.1 lines on average, but these positive results were not observed in the control group. The researchers pointed out that the results of the study showed that vitamin supplementation does have potential in delaying the progression of DAMD. ——Midi Medical Network
