The four-season garlic sprouts are a rare and recently introduced vegetable variety that is gaining popularity due to its unique growth characteristics. This crop is primarily cultivated from garlic or garlic cloves, and when covered with black plastic film under a greenhouse or shed, it can produce garlic yellow or garlic moss. Though visually similar to regular garlic sprouts, the taste remains consistent—garlic-like but without the strong pungency of mature garlic. It has strong adaptability, thrives in various soil types, and is resistant to pests and diseases. Any type of garlic can be planted in areas suitable for spring or summer sowing. Once established, this plant can be harvested multiple times over several years, with one planting lasting up to eight years. After transplanting, the seedlings will grow quickly, producing large quantities of garlic sprouts or yellow shoots in the following spring. The development of four-season garlic seedlings plays a vital role in supplementing off-season vegetables, offering a reliable source of fresh greens during winter months. **Nursery Preparation:** Start planting when the temperature reaches 15°C in spring. Before sowing, apply full base fertilizer—preferably farmyard manure combined with biological fertilizer. Plow the field, level the ground, and make ridges. Water thoroughly before sowing. To ensure even distribution, mix seeds with fine soil or ash fertilizer, and sow about 4,000 seeds per square meter. Cover with a thin layer of sand or dry manure (about 10mm thick), and use sieve soil for better coverage. Keep the soil moist, and within 10 days, the seedlings should emerge. Water regularly as needed, keeping the seedbed slightly moist but not waterlogged. **Seedling Growth:** The young seedlings resemble green onion sprouts. Initially, they grow very slowly. When they reach 3–4 cm in height, apply diluted human excrement. At 10 cm tall, apply 1 kg of urea per square meter via irrigation or drip to promote growth. Regular weeding and cultivation are essential to maintain healthy seedlings. **Transplanting:** After about three months, when the seedlings reach 20 cm, they are ready for transplanting. Apply 4,000–5,000 kg of farmyard manure per mu. If unavailable, use 40 kg of compound fertilizer or 25 kg of bio-fertilizer. Plow the field deeply, level it, and transplant the seedlings at a spacing of 418 cm. Plant them on sunny afternoons for better survival. Approximately 70,000 plants per mu. Ensure the roots are straight and covered properly, then water thoroughly. **Field Management:** Once transplanted, water regularly during dry periods. Loosen the soil and control weeds. Apply bio-specific fertilizer once a month, about 20 kg per mu, or use 2 kg of urea per mu through irrigation. During peak season, growth slows down, and weed competition increases. **Harvesting:** One month after transplanting, the garlic sprouts can be harvested like leeks. After each harvest, flush the field with biological fertilizer. You can separate several plants from each root, allowing for monthly harvesting. Yield ranges from 1,000 to 4,000 kg per mu. **Additional Notes:** 1. Four-season garlic benefits greatly from farmyard manure combined with chemical fertilizers. With proper water and nutrient management, yields can be significantly improved. 2. This variety has strong disease resistance and rarely suffers from pests or diseases. If issues arise, follow standard garlic pest control methods. 3. In colder regions, plant in spring or summer. For winter protection, cut the top before frost, water well, cover with manure or straw, and withstand temperatures as low as -30°C. Alternatively, dig up the roots and store them in pits or sand for replanting the next spring. Author Unit: Agricultural Technology Center of Xinmi City, Henan Province
