The fox fur is renowned for its vibrant color, soft texture, and abundant fluff. Its products are considered among the top three in the global fur industry and have long been a key export item for our country, offering significant economic value. Every year, December marks the peak season when fox skins reach their optimal quality. Below is a detailed guide on the preliminary processing of fox fur: First, remove the fat and secure the fox's nose with a hook. Place the fur side down on a smooth circular board and use an oil scraper to carefully remove the grease from the back to the front. The knife must be steady and the pressure even to avoid damaging the fur. Be cautious not to scrape away any remaining meat or subcutaneous fat, and avoid rubbing the skin with your fingers to prevent oil from seeping into the fur. For areas like the limbs, tail, and head where fat is harder to remove, use scissors to trim them off. Next, wash the skin by scraping off any remaining oil and trimming excess parts. Use clean sawdust to repeatedly clean the fur, removing grease and dirt until the skin is no longer oily. Then brush the sawdust over the surface. Flip the skin over and scrub the fur to eliminate dust and oil, ensuring it looks clean, shiny, and fluffy. The sawdust used must be free of resin and properly sieved before application. For the mounting process, place the fur inside out on the palatal plate, with the head and ears secured. Evenly stretch the skin, pin the head in place while pulling the fur evenly. Secure the edges with thumbtacks. Position the front legs outward and let them hang naturally, while keeping the hind legs straight and the tail spread out and fixed on the board. When the skin is about 50% to 60% dry, transfer it to a drying rack and re-mount it lightly. Once the lower jaw, limbs, and foot pads begin to harden, they should be pressed promptly. After full drying, hang the finished skin at room temperature or indoors for final drying. This meticulous process ensures the highest quality fox fur, suitable for premium fashion and textile industries.
