(1) The wooden box typically measures 60 cm in length, 40 cm in width, and 30 cm in height. To make it easier to handle, containers are attached to both ends of the box, allowing for convenient transportation and positioning during the growing process. (2) For loading and seeding, start by laying a plastic sheet over the bottom of the box that is larger than the surface area of the box itself. Then, spread a mixture of river sand, humus, and wood chips with a moisture content of around 45% on top of the plastic. Place fresh material and bacterial material alternately every 5 cm, keeping them separated and partially buried within the mixture. Fill the gaps between the materials with the same mixture to ensure they remain semi-buried. Between each pair of fresh material and bacterial material, place one type of seedling every 8 to 10 cm. After this, cover the layer with another 4 to 6 cm of the mixture and then place a thin plastic sheet over the top. For two types of gastrodin species, the second layer of fresh material and bacterial material should be aligned with the first layer, ensuring proper placement and coverage. (3) Maintain the temperature around 22°C to support optimal growth conditions. To prevent rapid evaporation and maintain moisture, water the mixture carefully. Insert a 32 cm long pipe with a diameter of 1.5 cm into each box, placing it from the top down to the bottom. When watering, pour 300 to 500 ml of water through the pipe, allowing it to seep into the lower part of the mixture. This method helps keep the material consistently moist while reducing evaporation from the surface. Additionally, shading the boxes can further help maintain humidity and ensure the mixture remains loose and well-aerated.
