(1) The wooden box typically measures 60 cm in length, 40 cm in width, and 30 cm in height. Handles are attached to both ends of the box for easy transportation and handling. This design ensures that the box is not only functional but also user-friendly during the cultivation process.
(2) When loading and seeding, a plastic sheet larger than the surface area of the box is first placed at the bottom. A layer of mixture composed of river sand, humus, and wood chips with a moisture content of 45% is then spread evenly on top of the plastic. Fresh material and bacterial material are alternated every 5 cm, placed side by side in the box, and the gaps between them are filled with the same mixture to keep the materials partially buried. Between each fresh material and bacterial material, one type of seedling is placed every 8 to 10 cm. After this, another layer of 4 to 6 cm of the mixture is added and covered with a thin plastic film. For two types of gastrodin species, the second layer of fresh material and bacterial material is arranged directly above the first layer, ensuring proper alignment and distribution.
(3) The temperature should be maintained around 22°C to support optimal growth conditions. To prevent rapid evaporation of moisture from the mixture, regular watering is necessary while maintaining good airtightness. A 32 cm long, 1.5 cm diameter pipe can be inserted into each box, extending from the top down to the bottom. During watering, 300 to 500 ml of water is poured through the pipe, allowing it to seep into the lower part of the mixture. This method helps maintain consistent moisture levels while minimizing evaporation from the surface. Shading is also recommended to keep the mixture moist, loose, and well-aerated throughout the growing period.
