Yu Fei's research on the "Character Performance of SP1 Generation of Multiple Sunflowers" has been included in the "China Space Breeding Collection," highlighting its scientific significance. The seeds of this special sunflower were carried aboard the Shenzhou 4 spacecraft and returned to Earth on December 30, 2002. After careful handling and planting, these seeds underwent genetic mutations, leading to the development of a multi-stemmed plant with chrysanthemum-like blooms. What makes this variety truly unique is that each leaf base produces a separate flower, resulting in an abundance of blossoms throughout the growing season. Each plant flowers for about two months, and with multiple blooming cycles, it can produce flowers continuously from April to November. This long flowering period makes it ideal for ornamental purposes and adds great value to horticultural applications. The development of Kiu Ju represents a significant achievement in space agriculture and showcases the potential of space-induced mutations in creating new and valuable plant varieties.
